Goodbye Book: Introduction

To be honest, I was a little nervous to work with you because I was warned about the types of kids I would have to work with. I was warned about kids hating me, hitting me, biting me, spitting on me, running on me, pressing false allegations against me -- everything. Despite these warnings and the stories I was told, I decided to go into [my assigned residence] with a clean slate for everyone -- both staff and kids. While this worked really well for me, I worried about not being a good fit for [assigned residence] because I'm younger than most staff and I wouldn't receive the same respect.
As the weeks went on, I realized there was so much more to this job than that. It was more than just being new or seasoned staff, more than being older or younger, and more than being educated or uneducated. Although I do not have favorites amongst you kids and love you all the same (for different reasons), getting the opportunity to work with you was one of the best things about my job.
